For the vetkoek:

125g Iwisa No.1 Super Maize Meal
350g Snowflake Cake Wheat Flour
4 tsp Snowflake Baking Powder
2ml Salt
2 Tbsp Sunflower Oil
1 Egg
1 cup Full Cream Amasi Maas
Oil for frying


For the mince filling:

2 Tbsp Margarine
1 Onion, chopped
800g Beef Mince
1 Tbsp Snowflake Cake Wheat Flour
1 cup Hot Water
1 Beef Stock Cube
2 Tbsp Tomato Sauce


For the vetkoek:

1. Sift dry ingredients together in a bowl
2. Beat oil, egg and maas in a jug. Fold into the dry mixture.
3. With floured hands roll the dough into 8 - 12 balls (depending on the size you want). Flatten and fry in 2 cm
deep medium–hot oil. Turn when golden brown and cook on the other side.
4. Drain on paper towels.

For the mince:

1. Heat the margarine and fry the onion. Add the mince and brown.
2. Add the flour, stir in the water, stock cube and tomato sauce and cook for 10 minutes.

To serve:

Slice the vetkoek open and fill with spoonfuls of mince.
