INGREDIENTS

For the stew:

750g Brisket Slices
2 Tbsp Oil
1 Large Onion
1 Packet Beef and Onion Soup
1 litre Hot Water
1 cup Carrots, sliced

 

For the dumplings:

150g Iwisa No.1 Super Maize Meal
150ml Snowflake Cake Wheat Flour
2 tsp Snowflake Baking Powder
30ml Margarine or Butter
120ml Cold Water

METHOD

For the Stew:

1. Brown the beef, then fry the onion. Stir in the beef and onion soup powder and hot water and allow to simmer
for 45 minutes to an hour, adding more liquid if necessary until the meat is tender.
2. Add carrots and simmer for 15 minutes or until cooked through.

For the Dumplings:

1. Sift the Iwisa No.1 Super Maize Meal, Snowflake flour and baking powder together.
2. Season with salt to taste, then rub in the margarine or butter until the mix resembles fine bread crumbs. Add
the cold water to form a soft dough.
3. Add spoonfuls of the dough to the top of the stew. Cover with a lid and simmer gently for 10 minutes or until
the dumplings are cooked through.
